📸Step-by-Step Instructions
1
Surface Preparation — تحضير السطح
Clean all dust, loose material and oil stains from the wall surface. Apply bonding agent (SBR) if surface is smooth concrete. Wet surface with water before application.
🧹
2
Fix Corner Beads — تثبيت الركنيات
Fix aluminum corner beads on all external corners using mortar. Ensure plumb using spirit level. Allow to set before plastering.
📐
3
Mortar Mix — خلط المونة
Mix cement:sand at 1:3 ratio. Add water gradually until workable consistency. Do not add water after mix sits for more than 30 minutes.
🪣
4
Apply Scratch Coat — الطبقة الأولى
Apply 8-10mm first coat with firm pressure. Scratch surface with notched tool while still wet to improve bonding for second coat.
🖌️
5
Finish Coat — الطبقة النهائية
After scratch coat cures (min. 24 hrs), apply finish coat 5-8mm. Smooth with trowel and aluminum ruler. Check flatness with 2m ruler — max 3mm deviation.
6
Curing — المعالجة
Keep surface damp for minimum 3 days. Cover with hessian or spray water twice daily. Do not allow surface to dry too fast in hot weather.
💧
Quality Checklist
Surface cleaned and bonding agent applied
Corner beads plumb (checked with spirit level)
Mortar mix ratio verified: 1 cement : 3 sand
Scratch coat thickness: 8-10mm
Finish coat thickness: 5-8mm (total 15-18mm)
Flatness check: max 3mm deviation per 2m ruler
No cracks or hollow spots (tap test passed)
Curing completed — 3 days minimum
⚠️Common Scenarios & How to Handle
⚠️ Mortar sliding off wall
Cause: Surface too smooth or wet. Fix: Let surface dry slightly, reduce water in mix, apply thinner first layer.
🔴 Cracks appearing after drying
Cause: Too much cement or dried too fast. Fix: Mix ratio correction, moist curing immediately, patch hairline cracks with slurry coat.
⚠️ Hollow spots (delamination)
Cause: Poor bonding, contaminated surface. Fix: Hack out hollow area, clean, reapply with bonding agent.
✅ Work in hot weather (above 38°C)
Solution: Work in shade or early morning, pre-wet wall, add retarder to mix (1% of cement weight), cure more frequently.
Common Questions (FAQ)
What is the minimum wall thickness for plastering?
Total plaster thickness should be 15-18mm (scratch 10mm + finish 8mm). Minimum acceptable is 12mm per SBC 305.
Can we plaster over painted surfaces?
Not directly. Paint must be fully removed by sandblasting or grinding. Then apply SBR bonding agent before plastering.
How do we handle block wall joints?
Fill all block joints flush with mortar first. Install wire mesh over block joints before applying scratch coat to prevent cracking.
